The Canterbury Fly-Fishing Club organises fishing trips several times each season, including some winter fishing day trips. Aside from these day trips, there are also two major annual club trips:

1) SHOW WEEKEND TRIP – Twizel

This trip has grown to be the major trip of the year for our members with 32 members traveling to Twizel in Nov 2006.
The trip is especially designed to ensure new anglers are teamed up with a more experienced angler on the streams, rivers and lakes of the magnificent McKenzie country.
We have for the past 2 years been able to help every new angler land their first fish on a fly rod and for many they were able to land numerous fish.
This trip is also a huge social event with a team meeting each night to determine the following days pairings and fishing locations followed by a shared BBQ tea which continues into the wee hours…..and sometimes beyond!

2) EASTER TRIPS

Reefton (Advanced anglers only)
2007 will see the first ever CFFC advanced anglers trip. This is an opportunity for the advanced members to get away and just go hard!
The club has exclusive hire of a backpackers hostel where 12 intrepid anglers will base their 4 days of extreme fishing in this fantastic fishing playground.
On last year’s trip and within 2 minutes of stopping at our first riverside location Ricky spooked (what’s new) a fish that we estimate was easily 12lb!
The fish are there, but they are not easy to entice. These experienced anglers will be doing all they can to ensure they do not repeat Ricky’s mistake.

Twizel (Open to all members)
Back to the beautiful McKenzie country with it’s small streams, big rivers and myriad of lakes and tarns.
This trip is not a mentoring trip but an opportunity for anyone to join a trip aimed at testing their skills on numerous trout, which have become wary nearing the end of the season.

3) THE RAINBOW RUN

This winter we will hold the inaugural “Rainbow Run”. Members will travel up to Lake Coleridge for a days fishing with a BBQ lunch followed by a night fish for the well-conditioned rainbows which frequent this lake in Winter.
Keep an eye out for details and dates for all the club trips by coming along to our monthly meetings or joining our members forum
