Proper selection of fly pattern is critical to ensuring success on the river or lake. Early season normally sees the extensive use of "wet fly" patterns, while fish are still heavily feeding on aquatic invertebrates. As the season progress, trout will begin to feed more freely on airbourne insects, making the selection of the appropriate "dry fly" a key factor to success. CFFC holds fly tying workshops for adults and juniors at the Fish and Game headquarters in Christchurch. CFFC has purchased fly tying kits and materials for these sessions to lower the cost of learning this fascinating aspect of the hobby.
