The
Canterbury Fly Fishing Club (CFFC) organises regular workshops
throughout the year in the following areas:
Fly Casting Lessons
These are held each year with
expert casting tuition by
personalities such as Chappie Chapman and Malcolm Bell.
These clinics
generally take place at the Groynes fishing lakes in August each year.
They are accompanied by a BBQ, which is another opportunity for members
to meet and socialise.

In 2004 we also had the opportunity to learn “The Tongariro
Roll cast” by renowned caster Herb Spangal whom visited the
club for a special clinic
Fly Tying Sessions
These are held regularly during
the winter months for all
levels of ability.
In 2007 we will hold a beginners series as well as a
series dedicated to intermediate and advanced tiers.
Members willingly give their time to host a full day’s
tuition for beginners, while we employ the services of professional
tiers for our more advanced classes.
In the past we have been lucky enough to have Reg McClintoch, John
Morton, Pete Carty and many other well-known tiers host tying clinics
for the club.

This year both the beginners and intermediate/advanced clinics will be
held at the same venue and on the same day to enhance the member
interaction and social atmosphere of the day.
One-day clinics will be held from May – July 2007.
Feather Merchants
have kindly donated tying sets for our
beginner’s classes and where possible, the club supplies
materials required for these workshops for a minimal cost.
The day also
includes a light lunch, which is a great time for social interaction.
4WD Workshop.
In March 2007 Ken Sibley, renowned 4X4 expert and author,
will be taking a group of enthusiastic members out for a day 4X4
driving on the Waimakariri river.
This clinic has proved very popular and will be repeated again in order
for more members to take advantage of his skills…. And to
hone theirs!
Open “Prep” day
In September 2006 we trailed a new clinic titled “OPEN PREP
DAY”.
It was a simple day designed to get members together in preparation for
the opening of the new season on October 1st.
We enjoyed tying flies to fill the holes in our fly boxes, mending
waders, making up leaders, joining lines, casting each others rods in
the paddock as well as throwing a bit of banter back and forth.
It was
great for new members to learn tips and tricks from the old fellas and
to share a bite over lunch while dreaming about the lunkers awaiting us
on opening day!
This is one clinic that will definitely be in the calendar this
September.
